Media Technologies

Media Technologies
There are many different media technologies today.  Technology is constantly changing and media takes advantage of all the technology available.  I think the internet is the biggest catalyst for media technologies as social networks and blogs are commonly used today.  The internet has led to social networks, blogs, emails, ebooks, videos, pictures, and tons of other media technologies that are extremely popular today.  The audience is very large and the audience ranges from teens to middle age in most situations.  However, there is a growing amount of seniors utilizing the internet today as well.  The internet is constantly getting easier to use, becoming faster and more efficient, and seemingly replacing all kinds of media sources as well as impacting retail and other product sales.  Internet has many positives and negatives, but there is no denying how powerful this technology medium is.

Email is another medium utilizing technology to communicate with individuals, the masses, and market tons of different things.  Email commonly called junk mail is used to promote all kinds of different things from various products to travel information.  I can’t tell you how much junk mail I have to weed through to get to what I actually want.  Email is the preferred method of communication within professional organizations.  Professional organizations provide email that can be tracked to better monitor their employees and access records for legal reasons.  Emails are extremely efficient, much like a text message when communicating small amounts of information.  Emails have also seemingly completely eliminated personal letters from individual to individual.

Radio is one of the oldest forms of media that utilize technology to communicate messages to all audiences.  There are target markets from about 10 years old up to 100 years old within the different radio stations.  Radio stations can be used to play different genres of music, discuss topics like sports and politics, and be used to promote many different advertisements.  One radio station I listen to on a regular basis is XX1090 which is a local sports station.  I don’t particularly enjoy radio as my preferred medium, but there is nothing better when driving in a car.  The information is presented in many different ways, there is entertainment value, advertisements, tons of different music, and lots of educational stations.  Rather than using cell phones to text, look up websites, or watch movies during a car ride, people should just relax and listen to the radio.  It is really the only safe medium when people are driving in a vehicle.

Television is another very large medium available and is watched by pretty much everyone in the United States and most places in the world.  Obviously there are many different demographics involved here as well.  We all know that television has an audience from pretty much birth until the end.  Channels now are almost in the thousands and cater to everyone.  Many of these programs are specialized to the specific audience.  There are channels dedicated to various languages, cartoons and educational shows for young children, adult channels, telesales programs, and TONS of commercials advertising everything from political campaigns to erectile dysfunction ads.  I will have to admit that I am pretty much glued to the television once I get home from work.  My primary channel is ESPN, but I enjoy various shows as well.  With the high definition technology these days, there is nothing more beautiful than watching a professional sports team play a live game.  In some ways I hate television, but it sure is great for masking some of the tedious and difficult situations in life.
